Eco-City Alexandria
In January 2007 the City of Alexandria, Virginia partnered with Virginia Tech’s Department of Urban Affairs and Planning (Alexandria Center) to design and manage a strategic planning process called Eco-City Alexandria. The purpose of Eco-City Alexandria is to develop an Eco-City Charter (adopted June 2008) and Environmental Action Plan (spring 2008) to guide Alexandria toward sustainability. June 14, 2008 | Eco-City Charter Adopted
On Saturday, June 14, 2008 the Alexandria City Council voted 7-0 to adopt the City’s and the Region’s first Eco-City Charter.
June 2008 | Compendium of Model Sustainability Practices
In preparation for the Environmental Action Plan, Virginia Tech created a compendium of model sustainability practices.
May 10 | Eco-City Summit
The City held an Eco-City Summit at T.C. Williams High School on May 10. The Summit, which is part of the City’s Eco-City Alexandria Initiative, gave residents the opportunity to provide feedback, input, and discussion on the City's draft Eco-City Charter.
